Clinical IVF Trials at InVia Fertility Specialists

Great news! InVia Fertility Specialists (InVia) has been selected as a study site for several IVF clinical trials! If you qualify, you could get an IVF cycle at minimal or no cost.

InVia has a well-established and very successful in vitro fertilization (IVF) program. We use state-of-the art technology and offer individualized care to our patients. Part of what makes us a “Center of Excellence” is continued interest in clinical research that evaluates new medications and technologies.

Before a new drug or device is approved by the FDA, it has to be evaluated in a clinical trial using real patients. Over the years, we have participated in several clinical trials which evaluated medications that are now used routinely in clinical practice e.g. Follistim, Gonal-F.

What is a clinical trial?

It is a research study where a new drug or device is evaluated before it is approved for routine clinical care. There are several kinds of clinical trials. A common trial is a “prospective randomized, double-blind study”. In this kind of trial, patients are prospectively treated with the study drug or a placebo where the patients as well as the doctors are “blinded” (do not know whether a patient is taking the study drug or placebo).

InVia has recently been chosen as a study site for several clinical trials, which will be conducted at our Hoffman Estates location.

Are there any risks involved?

It would depend on the research protocol. Quite often, the drug (or device) has already been extensively tested before it is approved for a research trial. The study is often done to evaluate efficacy (does it work?) or safety. The study protocol is evaluated by an Institutional Review Board (IRB) and study participants have to sign consents where the risks and benefits are detailed.

What are the advantages of participating in a clinical trial?

Quite often, patients get an IVF cycle at minimal or no cost. This is almost a $15,000/- saving especially for patients that do not have insurance coverage for IVF.

Do I qualify?

The clinical trials each have different inclusion and exclusion criteria. We will advertise the details once we get IRB approval to do so. If you would like to see if you qualify please call 847-884-8884, register as a patient and fill out your history online.
