When Will My Transfer Be??

When I first meet with egg donor recipients, one of their first questions, before even look at the egg donor profiles is, “When will my transfer be?”. I explain to them that first we need to choose an egg donor, and it’s not a decision to be made lightly. I ask them to take their time reviewing the profiles, I ask them to sleep on their decision and to let me know when they have made their final decision.

Then I get a phone call that a decision has been made. “We have selected Donor 1234. When will my transfer be?” So I then explain that both the female recipient and egg donor have to call with the first days of their period to do lab work, ultrasound, and start birth control. Once they are both on birth control, we ask them to schedule a nurse consult and at that time, they will receive a timeline for their cycle.

“But can’t you just tell me right now when my transfer will be?” Sadly, I cannot. The transfer is dependent on so many outside factors such as: first day of periods, medical treatment plans, how many days a donor is on her stimulation medications, etc. I would love nothing more than to have a crystal ball and tell them exactly when their transfer would be. It certainly would make my life easier and it would calm the minds of egg donor recipients during a time with a lot of unknowns.

Please just remain patient and realize that we do not control everything, Mother Nature has her hand in some of your cycle too. Just know that we have your best interests at heart and we want you to have the best possible chance for a successful.
