Fibroid tumors

Fibroids are benign (non-cancerous) tumors of the uterine muscle wall that can cause abnormal uterine bleeding. Also known as leiomyomas or myomas. Fibroids are a very common finding. In most women, they do not cause any symptoms and are an incidental finding.

Fibroids can be a cause of infertility especially when they are present in the uterine cavity.

The American Society for Reproductive Medicine Patient Education Society in cooperation with the Fibroid Special Interest Group has produced a full-length educational video that answers patient questions about the causes, symptoms, diagnosis and management of uterine fibroids.
