If you’re wondering how much in vitro fertilization (IVF) will cost, you’re far from alone, and the question deserves a clear, honest answer before you ever book a consultation. Cost is one of the biggest concerns people bring to their first visit, and understanding the numbers can make the whole process feel more manageable. Knowing what’s included, what’s covered, and what help is available can turn a big unknown into a plan you can work with.
There’s also good news for anyone living in Illinois. Illinois is one of only 15 states with a law requiring insurance coverage for IVF, according to RESOLVE: The National Infertility Association, and many people researching IVF in Illinois will have coverage for at least part of their care.
At InVia Fertility Specialists, our financial team will walk through every number with you, so you’ll know what to expect before treatment begins.
If your plan includes fertility benefits, your out-of-pocket cost may be much lower, and since Illinois’s mandate covers diagnosis as well as treatment, your fertility testing may be covered too.
For people without insurance coverage, a single IVF cycle at InVia costs about $18,000 on average, according to our affording fertility treatment guide. The $18,000 figure is an average, and your own estimate will depend on your diagnosis and treatment plan. If you’re paying on your own, our financing partners, including PatientFi and CapexMD, can help make the cost more manageable.
Before you start, our team will give you a Financial Clearance document that breaks down every cost involved in your care, so there are no hidden fees.
A base IVF cycle brings together several stages of care, and each one plays a part in the total. A cycle includes:
Some services aren’t part of every cycle, so they may be billed separately depending on your plan. Common additions include:
Your doctor will recommend ICSI or PGT only when they fit your diagnosis and goals, and your care team will explain the cost of each one before you decide.
IVF also comes with its own vocabulary, and you can always ask our team to explain any term in plain English or in your preferred language.
Illinois has required many employers to include infertility coverage for years, and that requirement grew in 2026. Under Senate Bill 773, group health plans that include pregnancy-related benefits and are issued or renewed on or after January 1, 2026 must cover the diagnosis and treatment of infertility, including IVF, regardless of employer size.
The earlier version of the law applied to employers with more than 25 employees, so many more people in Illinois now have access to coverage. Coverage must follow medically appropriate clinical guidelines, and plans can’t place tighter limits on fertility medications than on other prescriptions. Illinois’s expanded law is great news for people across the state, and infertility coverage now includes:
Some plans still fall outside the mandate. Self-funded employer plans are regulated at the federal level and may not follow the state mandate, so your own plan documents are the best source for what you have. If your plan was issued or renewed in 2026, ask your employer or insurer whether the expanded requirement now applies to you.
InVia Fertility is a contracted preferred provider for most major insurance companies, and our team will help you check your insurance coverage. Many people are pleasantly surprised by how much of their care their plan covers.
If you don’t have insurance coverage, or your plan covers only part of your care, InVia offers several financing options, and our financial counselors will help you compare them side by side:
Grants can help too. RESOLVE maintains a list of fertility treatment scholarships and grants, and Fertility Within Reach gathers grant and discount programs to explore. Health Savings Accounts (HSA) and Flexible Spending Accounts (FSA) can be used for many IVF-related medical expenses as well, so check with your plan administrator.
For people without insurance coverage, InVia’s Shared IVF Success Program offers a fixed price of $29,000 for up to three IVF cycles. The program covers egg retrieval, embryo transfer, ICSI or assisted hatching if needed, and embryo freezing and storage until a live birth.
The program can give you more financial predictability if you expect to need more than one cycle. Funds stay in escrow until you reach a pregnancy of 12 weeks. If you don’t have a pregnancy past the first trimester after three cycles, you can reclaim your funds to pursue other paths to parenthood, such as adoption.
Eligibility depends on factors including age, cause of infertility, egg quality and ovarian reserve, and response to medication. Your consultation and initial testing will determine whether the program fits you, and some costs are billed separately, including your consultation and pre-testing, medications, anesthesia, any surgical procedures, and genetic testing.
Every IVF plan is personal, so your IVF treatment cost will reflect your own circumstances. Several factors can change your total:
Variation from one person to the next is completely normal, and a higher or lower estimate says nothing about your chances of success. If your plan changes during treatment, our financial team will review the updated costs with you, so nothing comes as a surprise. Our IVF success rates can also help you see the outcomes behind the numbers.
Going into your consultation with a few questions can help you feel confident about the financial side of treatment, and no question about cost is too small to ask. Consider asking:
If you’re now feeling more informed and a little overwhelmed at the same time, that’s completely understandable. You don’t have to sort through the cost of IVF on your own, and our team is here to help you understand your coverage, compare your options, and move forward with confidence. Whatever your budget and coverage look like, we’ll work with you to find a path toward building your family.
